How Much Does a DSST Exam Cost? $100.00

Updated: Feb 20

DSST Test Cost

DANTES Subject Standardized Tests (DSST) are used to earn college credit.

The cost for each DSST exam is $100.

Colleges and Universities may charge a test administration fee per their school policy.

Individuals should check with their intended test site to determine if there are any additional costs and the accepted payment methods.

Please visit DSST test centers for a list of test centers and fees.

How Do I Pay For My DSST Exam?

College or University

Students taking DSST exams at colleges or universities must pay test fees at the testing center where they take their exams.

Payment is made on the day of the test.

Prometric Test Center or Remotely (Online)

If you take your exam at a test center or remotely with Prometric, you can pay your exam fee online (in advance).

In most cases, you will not be charged an additional administration fee.

Accepted Payment Methods

Credit and debit cards are the only accepted forms of payment when registering to test at all DSST testing centers.

Active Duty Military Students

Test Fee Exemptions

DANTES covers one attempt per title for active-duty military members for eligible examinees.

If you don't pass the first time, you're responsible for the retake fee on your second attempt.

So it's essential to pass on your first attempt, or the cost of taking a DSST could start to add up!

DSST Exams: Cost-Effective Alternative

A closer look at the expenses associated with higher education shows that the cost of DSST exams presents a compelling alternative compared to the hefty university fees for online classes.

Many universities levy substantial fees ranging from $1,000 to $2,500 for online courses, spanning a typical duration of 2-3 months.

In contrast, the DSST exam fee stands at a modest $100.00.

This stark contrast underscores the cost-effectiveness of opting for DSST exams over enrolling in traditional courses.

By choosing DSST, individuals can acquire college credit at a fraction of the cost, making it a budget-friendly and attractive option for those seeking a more economical path to further their education.
